Aerial Superstructure I depicts a sky abode, and is created in a similar vein to Rithika Merchant's earlier work titled Vimana. The work draws upon the idea that floating cities do not damage the ecosystem in any way, or disrupt ocean currents. Such structures are often immune to earthquakes as well. Here, Rithika Merchant references Gulliver Travels' 'Laputa', a kingdom devoted to the arts of music, mathematics, and astronomy, but find themselves unable to use these for practical matters. It also references Rene Magritte's painting 'The Castle of the Pyrenees'.
