“a lineage to dirt” uses pigments derived from soil from the artist’s mother’s plants, and indigo. Here, Rah marks a beginning, and a simultaneous end, where the body becomes a forest, rooted deep in motherly soil while the mushrooms growing on its stump are symbolic of its death. These symbolisms to death and rebirth in the painting reference transitions through fungi and aerial roots, for nothing in a forest is ever dead.

This work was developed for their solo show “and the trees sing resistance songs” in April/May 2026. They were awarded the Art India’s 30 Under 30, and exhibited at Vadehra Art Gallery in June 2026 as part of the award’s showcase. They will perform and conduct a workshop at Wonderfruit 2026 in December. They are also a part of the upcoming Bengal Biennale showcase.
