Savia Mahajan’s recent drawings move closer to a painterly approach involving dyeing and staining the paper surface. Natural dyeing contributes to the layers of planned as well as accidental tones that form the base of the intricate meditative lines. The title Anaerobic refers to the active biological activity that thrives in the natural indigo vats.

Further, these drawings are an extension of Mahajan’s practice of slowing down and being present, her stable breaths correlate to and enable intuitive patterns. Not fixated on a particular pattern or shape, Mahajan attempts to keep up with the repetitive action of placing lines on the paper and wait for something to emerge. She plans to be able to carry her drawings whenever she goes and make it part of her quotidian life, into some noisy days, quite moments, and sitting on the floor or a desk, allowing these moments that cause fluctuations that are welcome and part of the layers.
