Kulavoor’s most recent experiments involve painting on bonded particle cement board and were realised as organic choices, replicating the rigidity of the depicted structures. More importantly, they retain the innate marks, scratches, and chipped edges of being used or dragged to reflect the urban decay around us. The title Wall Street conjures a fast-paced financial metropolis, with suited people and high-rises gleaming off glass and aluminium. Kulavoor envisions a composition reflecting multifarious layers and complexities, akin to a maze, set in a removed and alienated environment. Influenced by Deyan Sudjic's The Language of Cities, the artist contemplates the definition of a city and its personality, exploring how symbols contribute to collective recognition.
