Savia Mahajan understands urns or pots as essential vessels that indicate acts of preserving, hoarding, storing and holding on. The collected urns from her travels go through a process of aging and braking, specifically around the necks that further allude to pots excavated from archeological sites and history. The pots hold verdigris—pigmented material derived from disintegrated brass or copper coins and waste that is treated to form rich patina. The metals were collected over three to four years and soaked in sea-water, vinegar, apple cider and vinegar for chemical transformation. According to Mahajan, the process and works are metaphorical of the nature of time or the “corrosive nature of time”.
