“a lineage to dirt” uses pigments derived from soil from the artist’s mother’s plants, and indigo. Here, Rah marks a beginning, and a simultaneous end, where the body becomes a forest, rooted deep in motherly soil while the mushrooms growing on its stump are symbolic of its death. These symbolisms to death and rebirth in the painting reference transitions through fungi and aerial roots, for nothing in a forest is ever dead.
