In her recent works, Nibha Sikander continues her documentation of the local biodiversity surrounding her home and studio in Murud-Janjira, focusing on moths. Each work is structured in three parts. The first presents the species at its natural scale and detail. The second moves towards dissecting and abstracting its anatomical parts, a process that has become central to Sikander’s visual language. The third introduces a new layer, drawing metaphorical parallels between the minute structures of insects and forms found in nature. These closely cropped, magnified sections reference the digital zoom familiar to our time. As Sikander explains, her current focus is not on enlarging the scale of the work but on expanding the individual parts, examining them so closely that they begin to resemble abstract landscapes or topographical views from above.
