TARQ is delighted to host the screening of 'Medea' - a film directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini (Italy). This is the forth film in our five-part film series titled 'Becoming Epic - Myth, Legend and Folk Tale through Colour and Sound'. The series has been conceptualized by Mumbai based film scholar, Elroy Pinto. The screenings are accompanied by a series of essays of the same title by Pinto.
This film by is based on the ancient Greek myth of Medea. A distinctive narrative of colour and sound provides a compelling backdrop to the mythical subject of the film. Pasolini also draws in the element of the ‘ritual’ that brings a distinct texture to the temporality of the film. Medea was shot extensively in the Cappadocia region of Turkey, amidst the ruins of Early Christian temples. The film also sees the singer Maria Callas in her only acting role ever.
We are grateful to SND Films (France) for granting us the permission to screen this film.
