Presented at TARQ in collaboration with Blueprint 12 (New Delhi) and Colombo Art Biennale (Colombo) Reading Room is a show of artists’ books and altered book art curated by Amit Kumar Jain featuring works by fifteen artists from across the world. The exhibition is a journey of discoveries and experiences, of nostalgia and witness; a space where the many and varied perspectives and practices of the book arts find a place of meeting, dialogue and expression.
Banoo Batliboi is a self-taught paper artist who is impassioned about creating ‘book art’. She works with old, abandoned books which have served for many years in their conventional form as a vehicle for narrative ideas. Now, by shifting focus to the tactile and visual qualities of the book, she imagines an alternative interpretation.
Jaideep Mehrotra is an Indian artist. He did his schooling from Mayo College, Ajmer. Starting his artistic career at a young age of 13, Mehrotra works across mediums like Oils, acrylics, cast resin sculptures, giclee prints, site specific installations and video art. Having had no formal training in art, Jaideep's style has been developed as a concatenation from introspection and exploration. Mehrotra's works manoeuvre away from conforming to the orthodox approaches. His paintings combine an aesthetic relation between various layers from which emerges a culmination which is rich in visual portrayal and intense in intellectual ideology.
